Manager, Technical Publications – Sybase, Dublin

We are seeking a results-oriented Manager for our Technical Publications department at our global headquarters in Dublin, CA. This offers a challenging opportunity for an individual with management experience and excellent writing skills.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:

• Oversee the design, development, testing, and production of high quality, technical documentation for mobility, database, and server products
• Establish, prioritize and manage the activities of writing teams, and coordinate efforts with multiple business units to ensure accurate and timely delivery of online/printed information products on diverse platforms that meet customer expectations
• Work with technical support, customers, partners, vendors and others to address product usability, reliability, performance, and functionality issues
• Contribute to the definition and implementation of business and product strategy
• Encourage growth of new publishing methodologies, tools, and processes

OUR CORE REQUIREMENTS:

• BS/BA and 6 -8 years; MS/MA and 5 -7 years’ experience
• Computer Science, Journalism, English or a related field of knowledge, plus 5 -7 years of software information-development and project-management experience
• Strong people management as well as time-management skills
• Experience with full life cycle of documentation for commercial software
• Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
• Strong project-management, estimating, and research skills

The successful candidate will have experience in:

• Coaching and mentoring staff
• Writing task-oriented documentation, reference material and online help for a variety of technical audiences, including software developers
• Familiarity with DITA or other topic-based writing methodology
• Using publishing software (preferably XMetaL and/or structured FrameMaker)
• Reading proficiency in programming languages such as XML, SQL, JAVA, and/or .NET
• Documenting enterprise-scale software that runs on Windows, UNIX, and UNIX-like operating systems for mobility, data management, and/or business intelligence industries
